How Acupuncture Works

How does it work? There are, broadly speaking, two views about this. A Traditional view and a Modern Medical view. They both agree that when fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body, the body senses and reacts to the presence of these needles. Modern scanning techniques have proven that reactions occur both at the site of insertion and within other areas of the body and brain. The Traditional and Modern views as to why this happens are summarised below.

Acupuncture aims to restore the balance of QI, free the blocked channels and restore health.

There are several different modern views of how acupuncture works. It has been demonstrated many times that local and systemic effects occur. A scientific approach towards acupuncture has shown that it stimulates the release of special chemicals in the body which can help to alleviate pain and also reduce your perception of pain.
